This is a highly modified version of the 1/700 scale Fujimi Kawasaki Type tanker kit, with very little of the original kit used, as the original is highly inaccurate. This model required extensive research, rebuilding and scratch-building in order to make it
reasonably accurate and detailed. Only the kit hull, decks and portions of the aft superstructure and funnel were retained, and these had to be stripped of all details, including hull plating and molded on piping. Everything else was either scratch-built (bridge,
piping,  kingposts, booms, refueling sponsons, winches & windlass, fenders,  spreader bars, etc.), modified (ex. Funnel, ventilators, etc.), corrected (bow, hull plating, wooden decks, etc.), or improved with photo-etch parts (catwalks, masts, anchors and
chain, gun bandstands, ladders, railings, etc.).  The actual list is pretty long. This particular model was the third in a series of
Kawasaki Type tanker builds over several years and benefited enormously from the learning curve gained from the first two (along
with some spare parts), taking less than a year to complete.
