David Koopman of South Carolina is another ship modeler who had multiple entries at the 2019 US IPMS National Convention. This is his build of the German Battleship, SMS Grosser Kurfurst, as she appeared early in World War One, still carrying
anti-torpedo nets and booms. The ICM 1:700 scale kit was used for the build. The kit was built mostly out of the box but Flyhawk railing, vertical ladders, and inclined ladders were added. The torpedo net was fabricated from plastic rod. Top masts
and spars were Albion Alloy wire. The rigging was done with lycra, nylon and fine wire. The model was painted with Model Master acrylics and weathered with artist oils. The sea base was replicated from a photograph of the ship taken from a
Zeppelin.
