It's hard to believe that this model of USS Midway CV-41 is in 1:700 scale. John Leyland of Illinois took the Orange Hobby 1:700 scale kit of the modernized Midway, built her in her 1991 Desert Storm fit, and entered her in the 2019 US IPMS
Nationals.. His outstanding build and intricate detailing makes the kit look as if it were 1:350 scale. The hangar deck had the bulkheads and overhead detailed and the starboard side of the deck was equipped with LEDs for lighting. Aircraft were also added
to the hangar. Small details were added to the flight deck and galleries, especially the galleries, which had almost no detail in the original kit. The island also received extra detaining, especially the underway replenishment hoses and gear. The kit came with
a photo-etch lattice mast. John used plastic rod for the legs of the mast and used the kit photo-etch for the platforms and details. Extra aircraft were added with 3D printed aircraft, some with open canopies.
