IJN Twin 25mm Anti-Aircraft Guns, 3D Model Parts 1:500 Scale, Review by Steve Backer - If you model in 1:500 scale, there are a limited number of kits available. Fujimi has some new mold 1:500 scale models but many of the models in this scale were molded decades ago, such as those by Nichimo, with all of the inherent limitations and lack of detail that implies. The 3D Model Parts twin 25mm gun mounts are an absolute essential for IJN warship models in 1:500 scale.
IJN Triple 25mm Anti-Aircraft Guns, 3D Model Parts 1:500 Scale, Review by Steve Backer - Whether you have a new 1:500 scale model from Fujimi or a golden oldie kit in that scale from Nichimo, any late war large Japanese warship will have triple 25mm anti-aircraft guns. 3D Model Parts has extraordinarily well detailed 1:500 scale triple 25mm mounts that will be far more detailed than the plastic kit parts out of the box.
USN 5-Inch/51 Gun, 3D Model Parts 1:350 Scale, Review by Felix Bustelo - The 3D Model Parts of the USN 5-Inch/51 1:350 scale parts are finely done, incorporating such details as the gun sights on the barrels. The parts come on casting runners but have thin attachment points for easier removal. This set is another homerun from 3D Model Parts.
Chicago Piano 1.1-Inch Quadruple Anti-Aircraft Gun, 3D Model Parts 1:350 Scale, Review by Felix Busteo - The 3D Model Parts mounts are much finer than kit provided plastic parts and are three-dimensional, which is something you can’t get with brass photo-etch versions. The parts come on casting runners but have thin attachment points for easier removal. These resin mounts are an excellent upgrade for your pre-war and early-war U.S. Navy ship and are well worth the $7.49 price tag.
Quadruple Royal Navy Pom-Poms, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale, Review by Steve Backer - You may want to upgrade the plastic quadruple 2-pdr pom-pom mounts provided in commercial kits to these highly detailed resin pom-pom mounts from 3D Model Parts. Set B702 provides four quadruple mounts.
Kriegsmarine Flakvierling C38 with Gun Shield, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale, Review by Steve Backer - The four-barreled flakvierling was the most common light anti-aircraft gun platform for the Kriegsmarine and Wehrmacht from 1941 to 1945. 3D Model Parts has produced a superb set of resin replacement parts to replace clunky injected plastic parts found in commercial kits.
IJN 25mm Type 96 Twin Anti-aircraft Guns, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale, Review by Steve Backer - The Imperial Japanese Navy 25mm Twin Mount anti-aircraft gun,3D Model Parts set N702, provides great value for any modeler who builds 1:700 scale IJN warships.
5-Inch/25 Open Mount Dual Purpose Guns, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale - It is almost impossible for plastic parts in a warship kit to duplicate the fineness and detail of the same parts in resin. The 3D Model Parts 5-inch/25 open mount gun in 1:700 scale provides superb detail in the mount and barrel/mechanisms. This significant gun was mounted in five classes of USN Treaty cruisers from Pensacola through Brooklyn. It is the perfect replacement for the plastic guns found on the kits of USS Indianapolis by Tamiya or any of the New Orleans Class kits by Trumpeter.
IJN 25mm Type 96 Single Anti-Aircraft Gun, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale - The 3D Model Parts IJN 25mm Type 96 single barrel anti-aircraft gun on pedestal mount is the perfect solution for any modeler building a 1:700 scale IJN warships kit. Regardless if you are providing the guns to replace crude plastic guns or providing them because the plastic kit doesn't even have the parts for the single guns, the 3D Model Parts 25mm gun provides the solution.
15cm Panzerschiffe Secondary Gun Mounts, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale - As many are aware, Trumpeter has released two models of the Panzerschiffe Admiral Graf Spee in 1:700 scale. One in the 1939 fit as lost and one in the initial fit on Neutrality Patrol during the Spanish Civil War. Then there are the earlier kits of Graf Spee, Lutzow, Admiral Scheer or Deutschland. Even the latest kits can be improved and 3D Model Parts does just that. Set D713 provides eight LC/28 single 15cm gun mounts for a panzerschiffe.
Vickers Quadruple 0.50 Machine Gun Mounts, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale - Those Vickers quadruple 50 caliber machine gun mounts on your early war Trumpeter 1:700 scale Queen Elizabeth class battleships and Repulse look very bloated and overweight if you are using kit plastic parts. They are not going to hack it if you are facing Luftwaffe Stukas, Ju-88s or He-111s, or in the case of Repulse, Japanese Nell's and Betty's. What you need to be competative against these aerial foes are resin Vickers quadruple machine gun mounts from 3D Model Parts.
Royal Navy Octuple 2-pdr Pom-Pom Gun Mounts, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale - You may want to upgrade the plastic octuple 2-pdr pom-pom mounts provided in Royal Navy capital ship plastic models to these highly detailed resin pom-pom mounts from 3D Model Parts. Set B701 provides four quadruple mounts in each tube. Each mount comes with two pieces, the base mount and the guns section. The barrels are very thin with the conical muzzle flash suppressors to capture their delicate appearance in 1:700 scale.
Quadruple Bofors 40mm Gun Mount, Without Shield, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale - 3D Model Parts produces USN versions of the Bofers gun, with set U-706 being the quadruple 40mm mount without shield. Packed in a tube, set U-706 provides nine highly detailed resin gun mounts. Each mount has two parts, the guns ad the base mount.
Five-Inch/51 Surface Action Gun, 3D Models 1:700 Scale - The Five-Inch/51 gun was the was the standard secondary gun for the USN battleship designs prior to World War Two. It was also mounted on some aircraft carriers. 3D Model Parts has reproduced the 5-in/51 in 1:700 scale. The label on the photographs is wrong in that the 5-Inch/51 was for surface action only, as the 5-Inch/25 was the prewar DP gun.
Five-Inch/38 Dual Purpose Twin Gun Turrets, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale - The twin 5-Inch Dual-Purpose Gun, Mk 32, showed up on about every warship class of any size in the USN inventory by the end of World War Two. For carriers and battleships to destroyers and auxiliaries, this versatile gun mount made its appearance. 3D Model Parts has produced a very highly detailed set of the twin Five-Inch DP turret in 1:700 scale. Set U711 provides six turrets with barrels with hollow muzzles and blast bags.
Twin Oerlikon 20mm on Tripod Mount, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale - Now the modeler has an option to have finely detailed twin Oerlikon mounts in resin from 3D Model Parts giving a true three dimensional look. The tube contains parts for 27 mounts. Each mount has two parts, the shield, pedestal and cradle in one part and the twin guns as the second part.
1.1-inch (28mm) Quadruple Anti-Aircraft Gun Mount, 3D Model Parts 1:700 Scale - 3D Model Parts produces a 1:700 scale quadruple Chicago Piano mount in resin, which is far finer than kit provided plastic parts but clearly more three dimensional than brass photo-etch parts. In it you get two 5-Inch/38 Mk. 30 Mod 0 gun mounts, mounted on destroyers, auxiliaries and USCG High Endurance Cutters. The detail on the parts is eye-popping and it is perfect as an upgrade for Fletchers and other kits in 1:350 scale.

Imperial Japanese Navy 25mm Anti-Aircraft Guns & Ammunition Lockers, Black Cat Models 1:350 Scale, Review by Felix Bustelo - I cannot think of an easier way to upgrade your IJN ship models than the 25mm Type 96 gun mounts and lockers from Black Cat Models. I highly recommend them.
Royal Navy Twin 4-Inch/45 Mk XVI Guns in Mk XIX Mount, Black Cat Models 1:350 Scale, Review by Felix Bustelo - The Black Cat Models 4-inch/45 Mk. XVI gun on a twin Mk. XIX mount is a fine way to upgrade your Royal Navy ship build. Since two mounts come to a set, you will need to purchase more than one package to fully equip most of your builds. Still it is well worth it as the Black Cat Models version is excellent and sets the bar high.
Browning M2 .50 Machine Guns Without Stands, Black Cat Models 1:350 Scale, Review by Steve Backer - Black Cat Models set AC350056b is chock full of highly detailed 3D printed M2 Browning Machine Guns. Although it states that there are twelve guns in the package, the printing wafer gives you far more. What you get are six twin guns with ammunition boxes and gun shield, eight single guns with ammunition boxes, eight single guns with no ammo boxes and eight gunners. As with all Black Cat products, the detail is phenomenal.
Ma Deuce, Browning M2 Twin Machine Gun on Modern Tripod, Black Cat Models 1:350 Scale, Review by Steve Backer - One of the newest releases from Black Cat Models is the modern Browning .50 M2 on the modern tripod in 1:350 scale. With Black Cat Set AC350056d you get six of these modern .50 guns with splinter shield and tripod. These are extraordinarily detailed one-piece 3D printings, which really doesn't get any finer. When Ma Deuce speaks, you had better listen.

Vickers Quadruple .50 Machine Gun Mounts with Shield, Black Cat Models, Review by Steve Backer - I cannot recommend too highly the Quadruple Vickers .50 machine gun mount with shield by Black Cat Models in 1:350 scale. For a rather inexpensive price, you get ten fabulous mounts dripping with detail. They are perfect replacements for kit supplied parts for any RN warship kit in 1:350 scale in 1941 and 1942 fits, after the shields were fitted. As Winston Churchill might have stated if asked about the comparison/contrast between the Black Cat and Trumpeter Vickers, "Black Cat tears Trumpeter a new one!"
USN 5-Inch/51 Surface Fire Guns, Black Cat Models 1:350 Scale, Review by Felix Bustelo - Since it is Black Friday 2019, it is only appropriate that we see a new Black Cat Models piece of ordnance in 1:350 scale. This is the 5-Inch/51 surface fire gun that was the staple for World War One US battleships and flush deck destroyers.

5-Inch/50 Mk 22 DP Single Gun Mount, Black Cat Models 1:350 Scale, Review by Steve Backer - As World War Two progressed, enemy aircraft became larger and harder to bring down. The 20mm Oerlikon was great in 1940 and 1941 but by 1944 they lacked punch. Even the 40mm Bofers mounts were lessening in ability. The Navy thought that the Mk 22 was the answer. It was semi-automatic in that it had an automatic loader.
CIWS 20mm Gatling Gun, Black Cat Models 1:350 Scale, Review by Felix Bustelo - Regardless of my criticism, the Black Cat Models Phalanx CWIS are a much-improved alternative to what you get in plastic model kits and even some after-market offerings. I plan to use these R2-D2s on my builds.

5-Inch/38 Mk. 30 Gun on Open Platform, Black Cat Models 1:350 Scale, Review by Steve Backer - One very common USN gun in World War Two was the 5-Inch/38 dual purpose gun. It was the standard heavy anti-aircraft gun for cruisers, battleships and aircraft carriers right before and throughout the war. It was also the primary gun on destroyers. In configurations it could be found as single gun turret, twin gun turret and open platform mounts. Black Cat Models has produced the 5-Inch/38 Mk.30 gun on an open mount in 1:350 scale.

That being said, due to the complexity of the open ABL assembly, this set is recommended for those modelers with experience working with photo-etch and the desire to build a very detailed model.
Japanese Type 93 Twin 13mm Machine Gun Mounts, Infini Models, Review by Felix Bustelo - This set from Infini Models will allow you to build 15 highly detailed 1:350 scale Type 93 13mm twin gun mounts. Each gun is a mini kit on its own and because of this I would recommend it for modelers with experience working with photo-etch. Whichever set or combination of sets you choose to replace kit parts, you can’t go wrong as they will add a lot of extra detail to your model.

Starting with USS Tuscaloosa CA-37 the other ships in the class, including San Francisco, carried lighter, flat front face 8-Inch/55 Mk 12 turrets, which are included in the Trumpeter 1:350 scale kits of San Francisco.

Bofors 40mm Royal Navy Mk III Land Service AA Single Mount Gun, White Ensign Models 1:72 Scale - Yeah, it's a mouthful but it describes one of the first good intermediate pieces of anti-aircraft ordnance to replace the wretched Pom-Pom. White Ensign Models now produces a very fine white metal and brass 1:72 scale version of this gun. However, it appears that they're up to something at South Farm, but what is it? SteelNavy dares to ask the disturbing questions! (Editor's Note: Within a few hours of posting this review, the Honorable John Snyder, minion of White Ensign Models posted this message. "Following Mr. Backer's concluding statement, "The game's afoot.", we can only reply: "Following your spirits and upon this charge cry 'God for Harry, England, and PT Boats!' "WEM PE 7217 is a U.S. Navy Mk.3 40mm Bofors Single Mount, as used on late-war PT boats. Now, get out those Revell PTs folks. The game's afoot, and there will be more to come...." Since the historical portion of the this review is based upon the assumption that the ordnance was the RN Mk III single gun Bofors, rather than the USN Mk 3 single gun Bofors, I can only conclude with the immortal closing words of noted social commentator Emily Litella...."Never Mind.")
