Greg Shoda has turned his attention to Jackie Fisher's favorite, the second class battleship, HMS Renown. He was the captain of the Renown first
but when promoted to Commander of the Mediterranean Fleet, he made Renown his flagship. It was classed as a second class battleship because it
carried 10-inch main guns instead of 12-inch and was more lightly armored than the first class battleships. But what Renown had that the first class
battleships lacked was speed, being two knots faster than the other battleships. In part, the British battlecruisers owed their existence due to Fisher's
experience with HMS Renown.
